For the second time this season, Daniel Ricciardo manages to stay ahead of his teammate in qualifying: the Australian Visa RB driver starts from 5th position in Canada. Commenting on Saturday’s results, he confirmed that he felt quite comfortable behind the wheel this weekend and therefore drove with as much confidence as possible.
Daniel Ricciardo (5th): “I am very satisfied with today’s result. The weekend is going very well, interesting and fun. This is one of those phases of the season where everything goes well.
We were less than two tenths short of pole position, but even if we couldn’t claim it today, sometimes you can end up on the front row with such a small difference. In general, if you feel comfortable behind the wheel, it is very nice if you perform at a competitive level.
In the last session it was very important to warm up the tires quickly – I told that to the team straight away. I managed to cope with this task, after which I confidently controlled the decisive attempt.
I was able to do a good lap, but I wasn’t surprised because I know that if I have confidence, I can perform like that. I’m happy with myself, but also happy for the team because both RB cars made it to the last session.
I always feel special emotions in Montreal, because I have joyful memories of this city and this track: exactly 10 years ago I achieved my first victory here, after which my life changed.
Moreover, the whole team feels a surge of energy this weekend and I am happy to take advantage of that because it helps to drive well. Tomorrow we will start from a good position, surrounded by very fast guys, so during the race I will try to do my best.”
Yuki Tsunoda (8th): “The result shows that the team is working incredibly well, and this is a very successful day for us. If we talk about me, I had problems during training, so it’s nice that before qualifying we managed to change the situation for the better.
Unfortunately I lost a lot of time due to a strong gust of wind in Turn 2, but it was still a good qualifying final. So far this weekend everything has been very interesting: on the one hand there have been good times and difficulties that we have been able to overcome.
However, if this succeeds, it is always a very nice feeling and we have to thank the team for that. We’ll see what the weather is like on Sunday, but we have a good car, so of course we want to add to the points we’ve earned by trying to get both RB cars into the top ten.”
