Nico Hulkenberg: We are out of rhythm

Nico Hulkenberg showed the 19th result during qualifying in Montreal and explained this for several reasons. Kevin Magnussen, his Haas teammate, has a fourteenth fastest time, but the Dane is confident it would have been possible to rise to higher positions without a miscalculation in the choice of tactics.

Nico Hulkenberg (19th): “I think we got to the track a little bit late. I was not happy with the car all weekend. I had problems with the rear wing, which wasn’t working properly, so we decided to replace it before qualifying.

This disrupted all our plans somewhat, we got out of the normal rhythm and there was too much fuss. In addition, towards the end of the session I hindered someone, which practically forced me to stop at the last chicane, and all this made the situation even more difficult overall.”

Kevin Magnussen (14th): “It’s nice that I didn’t have any traffic problems today. I think we expected it to rain during the second session, so we went out with a fresh set of tires first, but this meant that if it didn’t rain we wouldn’t be in the best position because at the end of the session we would have no new tires.

Unfortunately it didn’t start to rain, although I did a pretty good lap on my first attempt – I couldn’t have done better.

But I am cautiously optimistic because on long sets of laps we can maintain a good pace, but this was on dry asphalt. We will see what the weather is like on Sunday, but regardless of the conditions we have to try to fight for the points.”
