In Canada, both Aston Martin cars reached the qualifying final and Fernando Alonso does not hide his joy about this, because in the two previous stages he dropped out of contention after the first session.
Fernando Alonso (6th): “The qualifying was very unpredictable. There was always the threat of rain, but in my opinion we are fortunate that in such conditions both team cars qualified for the final session.
In the two previous stages I fell out of contention after the first part of qualifying, so starting from 6th position gives us a good chance to earn points in tomorrow’s race.
I don’t think I managed to do a perfect lap in the final, but when you see that I was only two tenths behind pole position it does get a bit disappointing.
Overall the car is performing better this weekend and tomorrow we will see if we can control tire wear and show the required pace as we have not done many laps on a dry track. If it rains on Sunday, it will all depend on who chooses the right time to change to the right tires, so we have to be prepared for every eventuality.”
Lance walk (9th): “We made it to the qualifying final and this is a positive moment, but I think we could have claimed a higher result today.
During the first session I made a small contact with the barrier, which I think could have caused some damage as the car’s behavior deteriorated afterwards.
Nevertheless, we start from a good position and can earn a lot of points on Sunday, in front of my Canadian fans. The weather in Montreal can throw surprises, so today we have to work on being ready to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise during the race.”
