Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the 9th stage of the Formula 1 championship, the Canadian Grand Prix, which took place in Montreal.
The three-time champion and current championship leader achieved his sixth victory of the season and the 60th of his career.
McLaren driver finishes second Lando Norris third – George Russell (“Mercedes”).
Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc And Carlos Sainz did not reach the finish line. Verstappen’s teammate also retired Sergio Perez .
The drivers started on intermediate and wet tires following rain in Montreal before the race. The safety car appeared on the track twice – first after the accident of Logan Sargent (Williams), then after the retirement of Sainz and Alexander Albon (Williams).
Norris, coming out of the second pit stop, was unable to get ahead of Verstappen, who then held the lead on the restart, created a gap and took the race to victory. Russell overtook Oscar Piastri (McLaren) in the final laps, as well as his teammate Lewis Hamilton to reach the podium. Hamilton earned an extra point for the fastest lap. Additionally, the Alpine team collected points in Montreal with two cars.
In the individual rankings, Verstappen is first with 194 points. Leclerc, despite the fall in Canada, retains second place (138). Also in the top 5 are Norris (131), Sainz (108) and Perez (107). In the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull has 301 points, Ferrari is second (252), McLaren third (212).
The Spanish Grand Prix will take place from June 21 to 23 in Barcelona.
