Bottas: I switched to slicks one lap earlier than necessary

The Sauber team again did not earn any points – in Canada the best result of the team from Hinvil was Valtteri Bottas’s thirteenth place. His teammate Guanyu Zhou was the last to see the checkered flag and after the finish he said he had no confidence in the car.

Valtteri Bottas (13th): “Not the easiest day. Before the start, the team changed the car’s settings to settings better suited to the changeable weather. I think this is the right decision; it’s always nice to drive when the car generates more downforce.

The decision to stay on the track longer on intermediate tires was also justified. Later we tried to go aggressive with slicks, but we probably did that a lap too early. In the end I couldn’t finish in the top ten. I don’t think we could have done better given our pace. The positions were regained due to withdrawals and opponent mistakes.

You have to keep working to make the car faster. The team has major updates planned, so I’m positive about our progress. We know what we have to work on before the Barcelona stage. The first step will be to return to the second part of qualifying, after which we will continue working.”

Guanyu Zhou (15th): “Another difficult race for our team, ending a difficult weekend. Although a lot happened in the race, I mainly rode it alone in the second half.

Just like in Monaco, I had no confidence in the car, especially when braking and cornering. After a weekend like that we all have to come together and solve the problems for the next stage in Barcelona.”
