Ricciardo: The race was fantastic and I’m happy to have earned points

In Montreal, Daniel Ricciardo was lucky: despite a bad start, when he lost several positions, he was still able to earn points and a penalty for a false start. But conditions worked in his favor during the chaotic race and the Australian Visa RB rider finished eighth. But his teammate is angry that he made a mistake when he ran ninth and ultimately finished the race second to last.

Daniel Ricciardo (8th): “The weekend went well from the start, despite the weather conditions. It was a crazy race and I’m glad I got some points.

I got a penalty for a false start and I was a bit surprised because I knew I hadn’t reacted to the light earlier than necessary. But then I remembered that I actually felt the car moving. There is a problem with her and it needs to be solved. But of course the fine also had consequences for our race.

When we went to the pits for the next set of intermediate tires we lost several positions compared to the cars that remained on the track, after which we could not go any faster even with new tires.

We fell outside the top ten and it looked like our luck was changing, but towards the end of the race, when the track started to dry out and I was already on Medium slicks, I managed to get back to the top ten. and this brought some relief.

“I’m happy that the weekend went more or less smoothly, and I’m obviously also happy that we increased the lead over the rivals chasing us.”

Yuki Tsunoda (14th): “Today I made a stupid mistake, so I apologize to the team. It is clear that the tactical decisions were made correctly and the team acted as it should. Although it wasn’t easy to stay on the track on a worn set of intermediate tires, overall everything went well. In addition, we switched to slicks just in time.

At least I managed to turn the situation around after training and the failed qualifying, and that’s already good. But in the end I am disappointed because this is not how we should have finished this race.”
