Fernando Alonso: I was nervous during the race

Thanks to Fernando Alonso’s sixth place and Lance Stroll’s seventh, the Aston Martin team in Canada achieved the best result of the season and gained fourteen points. Both drivers are happy with the results of the weekend in Montreal, although they admit that the characteristics of the Canadian circuit suited the car.

Fernando Alonso (6th): “Good race for the team. Finishing sixth and seventh after an extremely difficult race weekend is an excellent result. I think we can go to Barcelona with great optimism.

Despite the changeable weather, I spent the race alone. I couldn’t do anything against the five cars in front of me because they were too fast and there was little threat behind me. However, I had to be nervous because the conditions were constantly changing. I had to avoid mistakes and replace the tires on time.

The most important thing is that both cars finished and earned points for the team.”

Lance walk (7th): “I am very happy with our result. A difficult race – one of the hardest in my memory. The changeable weather kept us on our toes, but we did well.

In the first stint it all came down to managing tire wear, especially when the track started to dry out. I then made a pit stop during the safety car, where I put on a set of intermediate tires for a second load of rain. We then decided to switch to hard tires and held up well, while others had problems.

The track characteristics certainly suited our car, but we did well to stay focused and make the most of the opportunities we had.”
