After the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris said that the race went well at first, but then had a bit of bad luck, but was still happy with his second result.
Lando Norris (2nd): “The race was chaotic and eventful. Honestly, it seems to me that I held up well from start to finish. The first two stages generally went well, we were able to maintain a high pace. But then I had bad luck with the safety car, just like his appearance helped me in Miami. But now it was the other way around.
And yet it seemed to me that personally I acted almost perfectly. It’s just that luck wasn’t on my side at the moment, but that’s how it turned out. It was still fun! When the race takes place under such conditions, you experience enormous stress behind the wheel, but at the same time you also have a lot of fun.
In the first stint, when I was in the lead, my lead was about 10-12 seconds, and I was probably 2-3 seconds ahead of my opponents on each lap. Everything went great, but this is Montreal, and there is always something going on here.
But still a good race. We have to give Max Verstappen credit: he drove well and made no mistakes. But I’m happy with the second result. We earned a lot of points for the team and overall it was a successful weekend for McLaren.
We don’t give up much. It’s great that we got close to the leaders again, got on the podium and now it’s our job to keep fighting!”
Oscar Piastri (5th): “Of course I have something to be angry about. I don’t know if the result could have been different, but during the race there were several moments where we could have done better. In some cases I didn’t work, in some cases the team did, and now we have to analyze everything together.
But this weekend it could have been a lot worse, but we still earned a lot of points, so this is a great result for McLaren. However, we strive to achieve the ideal, and today there were certain moments when we had to do a better job. After all, when a race follows a scenario like today, a lot depends on the nuances.
But the race was very difficult, I had to put a lot of effort and maintain extreme concentration to stay on the track. Perhaps we can say that we need to establish a more effective communication process.
However, it should be noted that the Mercedes drivers were driving very fast on fresh tires, so it is unlikely that our result could have changed significantly even if we had somehow acted differently.”
