Qualification
For the second time since the timing went to three decimal places, the gap in the battle for pole was 0.000 seconds. The last time three drivers started at the same time during the European Grand Prix of Jerez in 1997 were Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
In total, there have been 16 cases of ties between first and second place in history. The one who showed the best time started first.
George Russell won pole position for the second time in his career and started first for the third time – after winning the sprint in Sao Paulo ’22. For the first time since 2017, a Mercedes driver took pole in Canada.
Verstappen qualified second. The Dutchman has won four races after starting second: last season in Hungary, Italy and Las Vegas, and this season in Canada.

For the fifth time in the last eight Grand Prix, Guanyu Zhou finished last in qualifying.
Race
The victory in Canada was Max Verstappen’s third in a row in Montreal and the 60th in his career. Red Bull’s lead over Ferrari in the constructors’ championship has more than doubled in one race: from 24 to 49 points.
Lando Norris’s second place made him the only driver to score points in all races of the season. For the first time in ten years, the McLaren team achieved points in Canada.
George Russell’s third place gave Mercedes its first podium of the season.
Hamilton finished in the top five for the first time in 2024.
By finishing sixth, Fernando Alonso earned points for the first time in his last three Grand Prix.
By finishing eighth, Daniel Ricciardo scored points in a race for the first time this season. He previously finished fourth in the Miami sprint.
