Vasser: I hope we won’t see such downturns again

In Canada, Ferrari’s difficulties started on Saturday: the drivers were unable to warm up the tires quickly and failed to qualify for the final session. And in yesterday’s race there were additional problems with the power plant in Charles Leclerc’s car, which appeared almost immediately and mainly affected the maximum speed on the straights.

It all ended with the retirement of both Scuderia cars – Carlos Sainz made a mistake and flew off the track, damaging his SF-24.

Naturally, the technical issues must be addressed as quickly as possible to avoid a recurrence in Spain, especially as the Italian team has no plans to make significant improvements and the next set of updates will only be presented at Silverstone.

After a completely unsuccessful weekend in Montreal, Frederic Vasseur, head of the Scuderia, promised to take immediate action.

“We hope that during this Grand Prix all problems will come to the fore at once and that in Spain our form will be much better,” said the team leader from Maranello. – We will analyze everything and try to understand what could have been done differently, especially since it seemed to us on Friday that our pace was okay.

The season is long and we will still have successes and failures, but I hope we will not experience such declines again.

In the case of Charles’ car, we registered a drop in engine power of around 80 hp already in the second lap of the race. We hoped that the race would be stopped by red flags, and then we would try to check and reset all systems and return to the track.

But there were no red flags. So we had to make a long pit stop, which put us almost a lap behind, and the race was effectively over for him.

If we’re talking about Carlos, he had a bad start, which put him at the back of the pack, and then at some point in the race he made contact with another car, causing damage to the rear wing and the bottom of the pack . car, so it was impossible to continue the fight.”
