Christian Horner: We need Perez to fight from the front

Before the Canadian Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing extended the contract with Sergio Perez, and after the finish of the race, in which the Mexican crashed his car, manager Christian Horner made a statement, the essence of which boils down to the fact that the team is unhappy with Sergio’s work in Montreal.

Christian Horner: “It was a terrible weekend for Sergio and that’s why the team suffered serious losses. He has to make amends in Barcelona.

Luckily Ferrari also had a dramatic day and didn’t score any points, which helped us. But our team has to earn points with two cars. We got away with it this time, but we need Sergio to fight up front again, like he did at the start of the season.

He is determined to come back and show everyone what he can do, just like he did in the first four races. The margins are extremely tight this year and Perez knows what is at stake. We need him to demonstrate all his skills because in the Constructors’ Championship we have three teams nipping at our heels. That is why everyone in our team, including Perez, must perform at an extremely high level.”

Horner’s words did not go unnoticed by Perez. The Mexican rider apologized on social media for his poor performance in Canada: “I apologize to the team for letting them down. But I have no doubt that we will get back to winning ways. There is still a long way to go.”
