After the finish of the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes head Toto Wolff said that at some point in the race the team believed George Russell had a chance to win. In turn, Red Bull Racing head Christian Horner suggests that the Brackley team’s high speed in Montreal may be an isolated case.
Christian Horner: “Mercedes has always performed well on circuits with new asphalt. Moreover, there are no really fast corners in Canada. The new asphalt probably helped them discover their strengths. The results at the next three circuits will show whether Mercedes’ current pace is their true form or just an isolated incident.”
In Canada, Mercedes technical director James Allison commented that Red Bull Racing’s latest innovations have only made the RB20 worse. Christian Horner did not miss the opportunity to respond to Ellison: “Even with new products that supposedly made the car worse, we were able to stay ahead of them with improvements. We achieved a well-deserved victory.”
