After the Canadian Grand Prix, the McLaren team closed the gap with Ferrari in the battle for second place in the Constructors’ Championship to 40 points and to 89 points for Red Bull Racing. British team driver Oscar Piastri believes McLaren is capable of competing for the title this year.
Oscar Piastri: “There is no doubt that achieving this goal will be very difficult, but I believe we are already in the fight. If I counted correctly, our team scored the most points in Canada. Of course not much more than the others, but the result is still excellent for us.
My partner and I had very consistent results this past weekend on very different tracks – we were fast on all of them.
There are still areas where we need to improve. I’m talking about little things, but when it comes to fighting for the title, every little thing matters. It will be very difficult for us because Red Bull has a lead and we don’t know how far behind Ferrari it is. However, I believe we are in a battle. We have a serious battle ahead of us in the second half of the season to translate our plans into action.”
