After a bad start to the season, Daniel Ricciardo tries to find a solution…
Daniel Ricciardo: “I always analyze what happened on the track: could I have braked later or done something different?
But after Monaco I looked at some other aspects that influence performance: am I going into the race weekend with the right motivation, am I feeling normal? I was trying to figure it all out, understand what I was doing wrong off the court, because I knew it was me.
We will always try to refine the car, and deep down I know I can do it. It is important that this happens as often as possible. I try to take more responsibility and think more broadly.
A lot of it has to do with how I manage my energy during the weekend. It’s not even something I do in the car. This ensures that I get into the car with a good feeling.
I went to Canada with renewed vigor, feeling lighter, hungrier and happier, eventually taking fifth place at the start. I’m glad the team was honest with me. I just wanted to know, ‘What do you think is going wrong? I want to try to solve this. But I will also tell you how I feel and why.” I feel like I’m a little bored. Maybe the schedule is too busy at the moment or something like that. I’m almost 35, I don’t need so many reassuring pats on the back. I’d rather people just be honest with me.”
