The race organizers, the French car club ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest, i.e. “Western Auto Club”), have not yet summarized the detailed statistical results of the 92nd Le Mans Marathon, but tentatively reported that they had collected more than 300,000 fans.
There is no doubt that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, although it is possible that the consequences of a long stay in the circuit’s stands in the rain and in fairly cool weather could still affect them. But the race was extremely interesting and we already told you that the Ferrari team won the race for the second time in a row.
By the way, one of the first to congratulate Antonio Fuoco, the Italian driver of the Ferrari #50 crew, was Charles Leclerc.
“You deserve it all, you are a great racer! Your father will be proud of you,” he told his friend via social networks.
This was the Italian team’s eleventh overall victory in all its years of participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The second Ferrari team also reached the podium, finishing in third place. But these are not all Le Mans results worth mentioning.
Among the drivers who took part in the Hypercar class there were some whose names are well known to Formula 1 fans, so it is worth adding that 9th place overall was taken by the crew of the British team Jota, which also includes Jenson Button. It was the 2009 world champion driving a Porsche 963 with tail number 38 when this golden car crossed the finish line.
Russian driver Daniil Kvyat finished the race in 10th place, together with the crew of the Lamborghini factory hypercar No. 63. Crew No. 19, racing the same car, including Roman Grosjean, took the penultimate, 13th place in this class.
In the LMP2 category, a hard-fought victory went to United Autosports, the team of Zac Brown and Richard Dean (15th place overall). This is her second success in the past five years, and today the authors are the experienced Brit Oliver Jarvis joined by two American newcomers: Nolan Siegel and Bijoy Garg.
“We are two-time winners of Le Mans! – Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, commented on this achievement – An incredible day! I’m very proud of our team, crew #22 and my best friend Richard Dean! Now it’s time to celebrate your success!”
To compare the speeds of LMP2 class hypercars and sports prototypes, suffice it to say that they lost 14 laps to the winners, during which they trailed the No. 50 Ferrari by more than 120 miles.
In the LMGT3 class, the race was won by the German team Manthey Racing/EMA Motorsport (27th place overall), at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R consisting of the Australian Yasser Chahine, the Dutchman Morris Schuring and the Austrian Richard Lietz, a Porsche factory driver. For her, this was her debut Le Mans, although Litz had already achieved his fifth victory in the “junior” class in this competition, all of which were only achieved in sports cars of the Stuttgart brand.
