Moscow Grand Prix: June 22, second stage of the REC season

Less than a month has passed since the first stage of the competition on May 18 and the teams are once again ready for a multi-hour marathon. The second stage of the series will also determine the Moscow champion – the prestigious title will go to the Moscow squad based on the results of two stages of the competition (May 18 and June 22).

Teams from Moscow, the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and a team from Novorossiysk – ARENA Racing Team – have been announced to take part in the second stage of the season.

The leader in the general classification after the first stage of the REC is crew No. 111 of Egor Efrosinin and Igor Mukhin on the fast and light French sports prototype Norma of the Black Thorm team.

Twenty-three crews registered to participate in the second phase of the competition. Due to the coincidence of the date with the stage of the Russian Circuit Racing Championship on the KazanRing circuit, a number of REC participants will not participate in the second race of the season.

However, the organizers promise the appearance of the long-awaited crews who were absent from the first phase of the series for logistical, technical and other reasons. The points scored by these teams compensate for their absence on May 18 and will change the situation in the individual competition before the third stage of the REC on the Igora Drive circuit.

The stage on June 22 on the circuit near Moscow promises to be intriguing. To increase the interest of drivers and spectators, a modified track configuration was chosen with a chicane on the long straight.

Crew No. 63 of the Spora GT team will appear at the start of the second stage of the REC: pilots Elena Aladieva, Ernest Taronishvili and Anton Devyakovich in a Lamborghini Huracan GT Pro class with a power of 620 hp. The team also has a second team #991 in the same class with a Porsche 911 GT3. As the season progressed, SPORA GT announced three more cars, including the highly anticipated Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo.

The appearance of crew No. 7 in the Marussia GT car of the IYengineering & Mospolytech team is expected by fans of this domestic development.

“Marussia, in preparation for the season, seems to have solved the problems with the unstable operation of the power unit of the Audi R8, whose control units were perplexed about what they were doing in the Marussia ‘body’ and an error on the most inopportune moment,” says Marussia GT creator Igor Ermilin. – Replacing the intake system with multi-throttle low-pressure injection and the Russian IPAC control unit confirmed its performance on the stand and on the track, although the setup took a little longer, causing Marussia GT to miss the 1st stage of the REC. It looks like the car is now fully combat ready.”

At the same time, the class in which Marussia GT will be declared is still under discussion, so Igor Ermilin does not rule out transferring the crew from the GT Pro class to the GT class.

Finally, an English sports prototype with 200 hp, the Radical SR3 RS from the RCS team (Race Cars & Skills), appears on the track. A total of five sports prototypes have been announced and organizers promise to expand this class during the current season. The RCS team will also field a crew in an Audi R8 LMS GT4 with 495 hp during the second stage in the GT class.

Among the debutants of the second stage, it is worth mentioning the new Real Performance squad in the SEAT LEON, which will join the GT Pro class – the GT Pro Touring classification.

Three Shortcut cars entered the second stage of the REC, loved by the public for their unstoppable will to win and the reliability of the Shortcut 527. After receiving the applications, the organizers decided to return the CN class to the Russian endurance racing series.

Anastasia Bendikovageneral organizer of REC (ANO SK ASPAS): “Today forty-four teams participate in the series in five classes CN Pro, GT Pro, GT, GT Light and CN, and this list will grow with the third stage at Igora Drijfveer.

We cannot guarantee the public in advance that all teams will participate at the start of a given stage, because the teams are independent structures struggling with their own situation, which is sometimes very difficult in the current conditions of sports car and spare parts logistics for them. However, we are certainly looking forward to the appearance of new interesting cars in REC, including Russian designs.

The intrigue already increases significantly as the season progresses. One day we will see a platoon of forty or more cars in our series, and that will be very soon. Maybe this season.”
