In recent years, Formula 1 teams have been conducting winter testing in Bahrain as the Sakhir circuit opened the season from 2021. In 2025, the first race will be held in Australia on March 16, which is why three teams are proposing to move the tests to Barcelona.
We are talking about Red Bull Racing, RB and Sauber. They offer the Barcelona circuit for financial reasons – conducting tests in Spain saves each team up to 800,000 euros compared to conducting tests in Bahrain. However, the remaining seven Formula 1 teams are against such a proposal and are calling for pre-season testing at the Sakhir circuit.
The final version will have to be approved at the next meeting of the Formula 1 Commission. If Bahrain is chosen, winter testing will take place in 2025 from February 26 to 28.
Regarding the tests before the start of the 2026 season, it is already known that teams will have two three-day sessions at their disposal due to the transition to new technical regulations.
