After nine rounds of the season, Sauber remains the only team without any points to its name. On the eve of the Spanish Grand Prix, team drivers Valtteria Bottas and Guanyu Zhou radiate optimism.
Valtteri Bottas: “It’s great to be back on track in Barcelona, which we know like the back of our hands. This racing ring has always suited me and I feel like I can perform at my best.
This circuit has no secrets for the teams. We have a ton of data on every state and every possible variable, so the smallest details will matter, especially on Saturday.
Although the team has not looked at its best in recent races, we are confident in our abilities. The team has worked hard to solve the problems and improve the car. The battle in the peloton is intense, but we know that if we improve in qualifying, we can fight for points again.”
Guanyu Zhou: “I am excited about the upcoming race and determined to participate in the points race again. Unfortunately the last few races haven’t gone well for me, but we are determined to come back.
The team wisely used the short break to determine the source of the problems and worked hard to become competitive again.
I have many pleasant memories of Barcelona. Last year’s race was a lot of fun and I earned some points. We know the track well, so there should be no surprises: everything comes down to pure speed.
It is crucial to start the weekend strong: make sure you do a lot of laps in practice and have the right settings right away, so that you have a chance to fight for good positions in qualifying and the race.”
