In 2026, Formula 1 will switch to the next generation of hybrid power units, which will run on environmentally friendly fuel, and half of the power will be provided by the electric component.
The development of new engines is in full swing and Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff emphasizes that some rivals are already at a disadvantage.
Toto Wolff: “If we talk about power plants, the train has already left to make changes to the concept. There are teams who think they are already behind at this stage. Other teams say they are doing well. This is a common situation when regulations change.
As for the chassis, some changes to the concept are still possible. But there will be no more changes to the engines; the development process is at too advanced a stage.”
