At the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes finished on the podium for the first time this season thanks to George Russell’s third place. Team leader Toto Wolff is happy with the progress, but admits that we will see a slightly different balance of power in the next stage in Barcelona.
Toto Wolff: “We have made consistent progress over the last few races, so it was great to take another encouraging step forward in Canada after a lot of hard work. Translating this work into results was a great reward for everyone.
However, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit is unique and has the same type of corners, but stands out among other traditional circuits thanks to the new asphalt.
We know that our competitors will improve in the coming races, so we will continue to work hard to constantly fight for podiums and even victories.
The Barcelona Tour will give a good idea of our progress as there is a mix of fast, medium and slow corners, as well as a long straight and elevation changes. Tracks with similar characteristics were our weak point last year.
The coming weekend therefore offers the opportunity to evaluate the latest new products. We hope to continue Montreal’s positive trend.”
