The Williams fan zone in central Barcelona is open from today and will last until Sunday.
It is located on the famous La Rambla street, where the FW46 show car is on display, racing simulators are installed and, of course, Williams brand souvenirs are sold.
From Wednesday, the team’s riders, as well as James Vowles, the director, will meet fans and answer their questions.
The Monaco Grand Prix remains the only stage of the season where Williams was able to earn points thanks to the efforts of Alex Albon. Despite all the obvious differences between the classic city circuit and the stationary circuit in Barcelona, these circuits have something in common, especially the slow corners.
Since Alex handled it well in Monaco and also showed good pace at the Montreal Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where he also had a chance to finish in the top ten, it is entirely possible that, apart from the unfortunate accident caused by Carlos Sainz, he will be able to distinguish himself in Barcelona.
Regardless, Dave Robson, the chief race engineer at Williams, has great confidence in him and believes Alex has all the necessary championship credentials and is capable of delivering the highest results.
“I think he’s an exceptionally fast driver,” Robson told the F1 Nation podcast. “Plus, he’s very smart, and the information he provides to engineers is very important in finding settings.
Some drivers don’t like to decorate their car for Monaco. They preferred working on the track and trying to find their rhythm, but Alex was fully committed to interacting with the engineers because he understood how useful it was and was happy to participate.
He handled the pressure well in Monaco when we managed to get him out of the pits at a good time in qualifying when there was no traffic on track. And then Alex showed very good speed, and at the same time he controlled very intelligently and had a good interaction with the engineers.”
Williams naturally hopes that this will also be the case during the race weekend in Barcelona.
