During race weekends, when drivers speak to the press, they usually have to answer questions about sports matters, are asked about the reasons for failures or are asked to share the secrets of success, etc. But fans are interested in seeing their heroes simply from human side to get to know.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, driver of the Mercedes youth program, active in Formula 2 this season, answered several questions from the team’s press service related to motorsport, but mostly only indirectly…
Q: Have you ever been late for a flight?
Kimi Antonelli: Yes, and many times. Especially when I was still doing karting. That happened very often back then. I used to fly to the races with my mother, and when we were late for the plane, she would always be very upset.
Q: If you were to choose any sport other than racing, what would it be?
Kimi Antonelli: This may be a difficult question. When I was younger I was a swimmer, but I also loved football. In general, I would probably become a footballer or swimmer.
Question: What is your favorite movie?
Kimi Antonelli: Of course, the cartoon “Cars”! It’s been my favorite since I was a kid, but I also like action movies, for example I really like The Great Equalizer.
Q: What is your best race?
Kimi Antonelli: Such a race still lies ahead! But of course I had one of my best races last year in Zandvoort (Kimi then took part in the European Formula Regional and took his fifth win of the season on the stage in the Netherlands). But also one of my favorites is the very first victory in formulas (in Abu Dhabi in the winter F4 championship in the United Arab Emirates). I think I’ll choose these two.
Question: What is the best dish to cook?
Kimi Antonelli: To be honest, I’m not a good cook. I cook almost nothing, although I can cook pasta with tuna, which is what I do best.
Question: What subject did you do best at school?
Kimi Antonelli: Physical exercise! (laughs) No, actually English.
Question: If you were a superhero, what superhuman abilities would you have?
Kimi Antonelli: I’d like to be like Spider-Man!
Q: What’s your favorite race track you’ve ever raced at?
Kimi Antonelli: There are many, but my favorites are of course Imola, Mugello and Spa. But I would also say Silverstone.
Q: Who were your racing heroes growing up?
Kimi Antonelli: Ayrton Senna was and remains such a hero for me.
