Guanyu Zhou had made little impression in recent race weekends and regularly lost to teammate Valtteri Bottas. In Barcelona, the Chinese Sauber driver said that the team had made a lot of changes to his car, meaning he had to start all over again.
Guanyu Zhou: “I came to this stage with a lot of confidence, because after the last race, where I felt very comfortable behind the wheel, we changed a lot on the car. In a sense I’m starting with a clean slate in Barcelona.
“I’m confident that this weekend will be a new start and I hope I can get back to my usual form and push to the limit, which I couldn’t do in Montreal and Monaco.”
When asked about the contract situation, Zhou said: “Every weekend I get the same questions. Everything happens behind the scenes, we discuss different options. It is difficult for me to give a more detailed answer than this.”
