Oscar Piastri: I think we will still be fast

Oscar Piastri hopes McLaren’s car will perform well in Barcelona, although the Spanish Grand Prix circuit differs significantly in characteristics from the one that hosted the previous stages of the season.

Oscar Piastri: “As far as I know we won’t have any new products this weekend unless the team keeps them secret from me! (laughs) But this is unlikely.

Of course we performed very well in the previous stages, but in Barcelona all teams will have to undergo a good test. The Catalan Ring is much closer in characteristics to traditional circuits, here we use the curbs less actively, there is smoother asphalt and corners have to be taken at higher speeds.

Overall we will see how our car will perform in Barcelona, but I believe we will still be fast, including in fast corners, but our rivals are only improving gradually.

The Red Bull Racing car has always had a lot of confidence in these types of corners, but that also applies to Ferrari, as shown last year. At the same time, for example, during the days of the stage in Saudi Arabia, we were convinced that they managed to make a noticeable step forward.

So we’ll see how it goes, although I think we have been able to make improvements in a number of areas compared to last year.”
