Bottas: We try to understand why we are not achieving our goals

Valtteri Bottas said Sauber is trying to understand why results this season have not met expectations, but the team’s priority remains preparation for 2026, when it will become an Audi factory team.

Valtteri Bottas: “It is difficult to predict how events will develop this weekend as the battle is incredibly fierce and the gaps are minimal. The team is working hard to understand why we are not achieving our goals. As I said, the gaps are minimal, but thanks to the new products we have prepared especially for Barcelona, we should be in better shape.

The team is currently undergoing some changes to ensure a more successful future. Sometimes you have to take a step back to then take two steps forward. It’s all part of Formula 1 and I hope we will be in better shape this weekend. That’s the goal.

This does not mean that there is something fundamentally wrong with the car. Our opponents are improving, we are improving, but we are not improving as much as the others. As I said, the future of the team and more global goals are now a bigger priority.”

Asked about contract negotiations for next season, Valtteri said: “The situation is evolving, but I have nothing new to add to what I said last time. Nothing has been confirmed or signed yet.

Right now I’m completely focused on finishing my work this weekend, with contract matters being discussed in the background. I believe our team deserves to earn points this weekend.”
