At the beginning of 2022, Haas F1 terminated the contracts with driver Nikita Mazepin and with the title sponsor Uralkali, owned by his father Dmitry.
Uralkali demanded that Haas return previously paid sponsorship money worth $13 million. The team objected, insisting that it had the right to terminate the contract, and the parties continued to discuss this issue in court.
As a result, the court sided with Uralkali. The Swiss Arbitration Center has published a statement about this.
“After a detailed investigation of the case, the court ruled that Haas had breached the contract and was obliged to pay damages to Uralkali. The court dismissed all of the team’s counterclaims against the company,” the court statement said.
Uralkali expects that Haas will fulfill its obligations under the decision without undue delay.
