At the end of May we wrote about the negotiations between Renault management and Flavio Briatore, who once headed the factory team of the French concern.
Today, the Alpine F1 Team officially confirmed that the 74-year-old Italian manager has indeed been appointed to the position of executive advisor.
A short message about this appeared on the team’s social media pages: “The Alpine F1 team can confirm that the head of the Renault group, Luca de Meo, has appointed Flavio Briatore as executive advisor of the division dealing with Formula 1.”
Briatore entered the Formula 1 paddock in 1989 and became head of the Benetton team. Thanks in part to his efforts and business connections with Bernie Ecclestone, the then head of World Championship management, Benetton managed to sign Michael Schumacher, who was just starting his career in Formula 1. And a few years later, in 1994 and 1995, the future seven-time world champion won his first two titles in a row.
Ten years later, history repeated itself, but with Fernando Alonso – the team, already called Renault F1, led by the same Briatore, won two titles and two constructors’ championships – this was in 2005 and 2006.
Now Briatore returns to the paddock in a different capacity. It is reported that he will be primarily responsible for the strategic development of Alpine F1, including the search for young talent, analyzing the pilot market, and he will also need to understand the reasons for the team’s current problems and make a provide critical assessment of “the existing project by determining the degree of effectiveness of its structure”
