Three drivers drove with Haas in Barcelona on Friday. In addition to Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg, Oliver Berman got behind the wheel of the German driver’s car in the first free practice. The team conducted several aerodynamic tests, collected information and was satisfied with the work done.
Kevin Magnussen (11th): “I think today went well. Most importantly, the speed over the long series of laps seemed good to me, but I haven’t seen any telemetry or lap times yet.
Barcelona used to be the base circuit for the entire season, but now more and more city circuits are on the calendar, making Barcelona look less and less like an average race track.
We didn’t expect to be this fast on the fast parts of the track, so I wonder if we can maintain this level of competitiveness, or if that’s just the way it is.”
Nico Hulkenberg (12th): “Quiet session without any problems, but today I only participated in the second training. I immediately felt comfortable in the car – from the first lap.
We have to work on the speed over a long series of laps because we still have to achieve harmony with the balance. My first impression of the lap times is that they are very strong for us. Barcelona is a long race and if your car is not that good on the track it will be a difficult race. Let’s see how the weekend’s events develop.”
Oliver Berman (19th in first training): “It’s nice to be behind the wheel of the VF-24 again in Barcelona. I am happy with my work. It was great to get up to speed quickly in a Formula 1 car and see what it can do on a circuit with lots of fast corners.
We did everything we wanted in the program, which was the main goal. I am happy and confident in the car. I now look forward to my next return behind the wheel at Silverstone.”
