Briatore: I don’t have to change wheels at pit stops!

Today it was announced that Flavio Briatore will return to the paddock as an advisor to the Alpine division, which deals with Formula 1. On Sky Sports, the 74-year-old Briatore emphasized that he reports directly to Luca de Meo, chairman of the board of the Renault group.

Flavio Briatore: “I actually had no intention of returning to Formula 1, but Luca de Meo, the head of the Renault group, whom I know well and have a lot of respect for, asked me if I wanted to become his advisor.

He understands that Alpine F1 is having difficulties, that the results are not important, and that our negotiations have lasted two or three months, maybe even longer. This made me feel motivated and I decided to do this, realizing that the team could still be steered in the right direction.

She has a leader, Bruno Famen, but I have to work not only with him, but with everyone in general. I will have to come to the races, but I will report directly to Luca de Meo. Together we determine in which direction the team should develop.

Personally, I don’t have to change wheels at pit stops! I’m not going to drive the car either (laughs), but I will try to make Alpine a more competitive team in a few years.

Let’s clarify again to avoid confusion: the team has a leader and he is doing a very good job. We have to work together and I have no doubt that we can make a difference in a very short time.”
