Maria Boya won the Formula 3 race in Barcelona on Saturday. For the Campos driver, this victory was the first in his career and on his home circuit. Together with him, Alex Dunne and Oliver Goethe climbed to the podium.
On Saturday morning, the Formula 3 sprint participants were greeted with sunny and warm weather. According to the qualifying results, Sami Megetunif was supposed to start from pole, but after the session the stewards canceled Sebastian Montoya’s best lap for exceeding the limits of the track, and Megetunif moved up to 11th place and 12th, which guaranteed the start from pole on Saturday it was taken by Santiago Ramos.
At the start the top four held their positions and towards the end of the first lap Oliver Goethe overtook Laurens van Heupen in the battle for fifth place. Arvid Landblad regained three positions and moved up to eighth.
On the third lap, Megetunif Ramos tried to attack in the first corner, drove onto the grass, lost control of the car and crashed into his leading teammate. Ramos went off the track, was able to return, but due to the speed difference, Mari Boya overtook him. Megetunif was left standing outside the highway and the safety car had to be released for evacuation.
Behind this, in the same first corner, there was a collision between Nikita Bedrin and Callum Voisin – Bedrin exaggerated his opponent’s attack. Both left the race.
For Ramos, the consequences were more serious than the loss of leadership: he suffered a puncture in the right rear tire as a result of the collision. Santiago made a pit stop and continued the race, but only 27th.
The restart took place on the eighth lap of twenty-one. The top five retained their positions and in the battle for sixth place, Noel overtook Leon Lindblad.
Maria Boia, being on an empty track, immediately showed the best lap, creating a lead over the peloton, but at the end of the race Leonardo Fornaroli was awarded an extra point for the best lap and moved up to second place in the individual rankings. , three points behind Gabriele Mini.
By the fourteenth lap, Lindblad had lost two more positions to Leonardo Fornaroli and Dino Beganovic.
On lap sixteen, Alex Dunne tried to attack the leading Boy in the first corner, but Marie defended herself expertly.
On the eighteenth lap, exiting turn four, Sebastian Montoya attacked the Mini, contact occurred between the wheels, Mini lost control of the car and carried his opponent into the gravel of turn five. The race was over for both and the safety car came onto the track.
The safety car entered the pits at the very end of the last lap and Boya was immediately given the checkered flag. Alex Dunne’s second place is in doubt – after the finish the stewards investigate a possible false start by the MP Motorsport driver.
