None of the Aston Martin drivers made it to the final qualifying round in Barcelona, but Fernando Alonso will still have to start from row five as Sergio Perez was penalized at the previous round in Canada and will lose three places.
Fernando Alonso (11th): “A very intense rivalry developed during today’s qualifying and several cars’ results fit within a few tenths. Before the session we were a bit pessimistic, so I think we should be happy because after Sergio Perez’s penalty we will have to start the race from 10th position.
The Spanish fans have supported us tremendously, for which I am very grateful. We would like to fight for higher positions, but we will see what we can achieve tomorrow: if we start from the top ten, we must try to make full use of all opportunities to earn points.”
Lance walk (14th): “We knew that a difficult qualifying awaited us, so in my opinion the participation of both cars in the second session is the maximum that could be achieved. The car just doesn’t have enough speed and on a track like this we can’t compete with the top teams.
In the first session we had some traffic problems, but in the second we wanted to leave the pits early and during my last attempt the track was clear for me.
I think in the long series of laps our pace is still a little better than the pace in qualifying, so we’ll see what we can do in the race.”
