James Vowles: We will still be able to increase the speed of the car

The Spanish leg of the season for the Williams team was the second problematic weekend in a row, but this time for different reasons. If Alex Albon really claimed points in Canada, but left the race after the Carlos Sainz incident, then yesterday during the entire race, while talking on the radio with his engineer, he could not hide his clear dissatisfaction with the car.

“It was a difficult weekend, the difficulties continued until the finish,” agreed James Vowles, head of Williams Racing. – But Barcelona has historically not been the most convenient route for us. However, to go further, it is very important to understand what exactly this is about. Finding out why we performed so poorly here will help us in the future.

I am confident that in Austria and Silverstone you will again see that our car will allow us to move up the positions, and that we will have the opportunity to fight for points. But this does not make the painful feelings about last weekend any less.

If we can tackle the problems at their root, there is no doubt that we can make improvements. This is one of the priority issues that we will focus on in the coming days.

As for the race itself, we started last and moving forward on this track is very difficult. We tried to do something through tactics, but it all ended with us staying in approximately the same positions. This shows once again that we have a lot of work to do, but there are still many races before the end of the season, so I am optimistic that we can still increase the speed of the car significantly.”
