Mercedes chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin said the team is preparing updates to the car ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, to be held at the circuit in Spa from August 26-28. The team expects the new items to further close the gap with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari.
Andrew Shovlin: “We will have more new items. We will try to bring updates to the Spa. I hope they will help close the gap we have left. We will continue to refine the car gradually.
The last few races have been the most fun for us this season and we look forward to taking it one step further as we want to start winning races in the near future. We are working hard to achieve this goal.
The results of the last two races have been particularly encouraging, because we have achieved results ourselves, and not because of rivals’ failures or reliability issues. The car has a very good pace – it’s nice to go on a summer break after a successful race. I’m especially happy that our car is now fast, both in qualifying and over the race distance.
After the start of the season we had to bounce back. The team has been working hard to bring new items to each stage. It’s nice to see that we can now compete with Ferrari and are just a little behind Red Bull Racing.”
