Sebastien Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landais will not be able to take part in the Rally of Poland after a road accident that occurred on Tuesday morning while the Toyota factory team crew was exploring the circuit near the Polish city of Włosti. The highway was not yet closed to normal traffic at that time.
Ogier was driving a standard car when a local man, traveling with a passenger, collided head-on with the Ford. After the accident, all four were taken to hospital for examination.
The Toyota team said all vehicles used in preparation for the competition were equipped with GPS, and telemetry data confirmed the speed was within legal limits.
During the medical examination, it was found that none of the participants in the accident suffered serious injuries, but if Lande was immediately discharged, Ogier will remain in hospital and will not be able to start the seventh stage of the World Championship.
In the meantime, the team is exploring the possibility of introducing another driver to the starting line-up to replace the eight-time world champion.
