Mercedes is seriously focused on fighting

Several years after the transition to using ‘ground effect’, Mercedes solved the problems with the car, but now they are behind us – and the team is focused on the battle.

Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes chief engineer: “It’s great to see both drivers on the podium in the last two races. This is a result of the progress we have made through hard work at the grassroots. But we want more than third place, we work hard, we have plans and we hope they will be realized.

In Austria there is a difficult circuit and a weekend with a sprint on Saturday, where we have the only training where we have to sort out and set up the car. After recent changes, working with the machine has become much easier. The riders are already satisfied with the start settings, we need to make fewer changes.

I hope this allows us to start the weekend well. Then two qualifiers, two separate races – there’s a chance to compete! The drivers and the team enjoy the car we have now. We hope to gain a lot of points and are looking forward to the start in Austria.

We have a plan to improve the aerodynamic and mechanical efficiency of the car. New products will appear in the next races, but we don’t want to give our rivals an idea of when we will present them, because then they will try to bring their new products earlier.

But here too we will have something new. We see the backlog getting smaller, which further motivates people to release even small new products.

With just a few hundredths of a second you will be higher on the starting field, giving you the chance to finish in the best places. We are working at full capacity, but I will not tell you about the development plans for the coming races.”
