Alpine can announce a new contract with Gasly in Austria

Pierre Gasly’s contract with Alpine expires at the end of this year, and since the Renault works team’s frankly poor start to this season, the French driver has already been looking for other options to continue his career.

But there is little doubt in the paddock that Pierre will still remain in Alpine F1, and this could be announced in Austria. If the prediction comes true, Gasly’s decision was likely influenced by the fact that things at the team were gradually starting to improve. At least in the previous two stages, Gasly and his teammate Esteban Ocon earned points.

A week ago it was announced that Flavio Briatore would return to Enstone, now in the role of advisor to Groupe Renault boss Luca de Meo, and yesterday the 74-year-old Italian manager already visited the Alpine F1 base.

In his recent interviews he made it clear that the team is counting on continued cooperation with Gasly.

“The composition for 2025 is not yet a priority,” Gazzetta dello Sport quotes Briatore. – The most important thing now is to make the car more competitive. Without this, riders cannot improve.

I have a list of main contenders, but in any case we are counting on Gasly for the time being and we will make a decision about his next partner without haste.

We are looking at a lot of young riders, but I won’t say who exactly. But they are very good. But first we have to make the car faster, so it drives more comfortably, and only then will we think about the racers.”

After the Monaco stage, it became known about the upcoming termination of the partnership with Esteban Ocon, and so far Alpine remains the only team that has not confirmed contracts with any of the drivers for the next season.

If the chance that Gasly continues to drive for Alpine F1 is high enough, several drivers could compete for his partner’s place – in this context the names of Jack Douhan, Mick Schumacher, Guanyu Zhou and even Valtteri Bottas sound.

Duane is already the team’s reserve driver, while he is the son of the seven-time world champion who races for the Alpine Endurance Team in endurance racing, and both will test at Silverstone in early July in the A522, a 2022 car.
