George Russell is happy for Lando Norris, who he has known since the days of karting, as the McLaren driver took 2nd place in the World Championship individual standings and is second only to Max Verstappen.
Since the Mercedes car is slightly inferior to the McLaren in terms of speed, Russell is still in 7th place and, commenting on this situation, joked that he did not want his old friend to demonstrate such an enviable form for too long.
George Russell: “I know Lando well and I am very happy that he is fighting for pole positions and victories. I think we first started racing on the circuit in 2008, and everything we have experienced in karting, F4, F3 and Formula 2, where we competed on the front row every weekend, shows that we and even now they must argue for victories.
He’s a little bit ahead of us at the moment and I don’t want him to show that form for too long, you know? (laughs) However, this is exactly the essence of racing in general and Formula 1 in particular – so let him keep fighting for victories!”
