On Thursday, ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Aston Martin confirmed the contract with Lance Stroll for 2025. In Spielberg, journalists asked Fernando Alonso for comment on the team’s new agreement with his Canadian teammate.
Fernando Alonso: “Lance is a very dedicated person. He does a lot of simulator work and lives in the UK, which helps. He is always in touch with the team and knows everything about the car.
For the past two days, he and I have been constantly messaging each other on WhatsApp. On Sunday evening after the race in Barcelona, he and I exchanged quite a few messages. I don’t remember having a similar relationship with any of my teammates in the past. Lance is very open and asks a lot of questions about driving style, braking technique and different types of circuits.
I am working with this team on a long-term project, probably the longest of my life and career. When I stop driving, I hope that Lance will lead the team and that I will continue to support him.
Lance and I have gotten along really well over the last year and a half, so for me personally, his contract extension is great news. I can continue to work with someone who thinks along the same lines as me. This helps the team because it doesn’t have to be distracted by individual desires. This is good news for the team.”
