Oscar Piastri finished second in the sprint at the Red Bull Ring on Saturday, after which he commented on the most interesting moments of the race.
Oscar Piastri: “I finished one position higher than where I started, but in the second half of the race I no longer had enough pace. I thought that Max Verstappen and Lando Norris would get carried away competing with each other and that this would allow them to gain an advantage over both at some point, but it didn’t work out.
We will have to analyze everything and draw the necessary conclusions in preparation for today’s qualifying and tomorrow’s race. But of course we have earned a lot of points compared to other teams we are competing with.
I saw that there was a really intense fight between Max and Lando and I saw that they were dueling at the last moment in turn 4 and I realised that there could be an opportunity for me coming out of this corner. I hoped that I could stay ahead of both of them, I picked the right moment and did everything in my power.
“I think I probably had a chance to stay ahead of Max on the next lap, but I just didn’t have enough speed then. Still, I did well to be patient at the beginning of the race, and this approach paid off.”
