Max Verstappen won the Spielberg sprint for his tenth career victory. After the finish, the Red Bull Racing driver admitted that first place was not easy, as his McLaren rivals actively put him under pressure.
Max Verstappen: “I had a good first lap, but as soon as DRS became possible, it was very difficult for me to take the lead to second. I had some nice battles, but once the competition dropped out of the DRS zone, I could race at my own pace and it became much better.
You saw with your own eyes how two McLaren drivers attacked with full force and tried to make my task more difficult.
In the sprint we managed to understand something about how to act better in the race on Sunday. Tomorrow the distance is much longer and the load on the tires is higher. It will be interesting to see how things will develop in the future.”
