Sainz has fewer and fewer chances to sign with Williams

Carlos Sainz continues to choose which team he wants to continue his career in Formula 1. Previously it was thought that the Spanish Ferrari driver had to choose between Sauber/Audi and Williams, but he recently received an offer from Alpine, made by Flavio Briatore. As Carlos explores options to continue his career, his chances of landing a contract with Williams are becoming increasingly slim.

The British press reports, based on sources, that Williams is tired of waiting for an answer from Sainz and has resumed negotiations with other candidates for a place in the team. First of all, we are talking about Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon.

The reason Sainz has not yet chosen a team for next season lies in the timing of his contract. Carlos only wants to sign an agreement for 2025 so that he can compete for a seat at Red Bull Racing in 2026 if a vacancy becomes available in the championship team.

In turn, none of the teams offering Sainz a contract are willing to sign a one-year deal with the driver. Sauber/Audi offer a multi-year contract that does not provide for the possibility of early termination.

At Williams the situation is similar: in Grove they are ready to sign a contract with Sainz that runs until 2028, and which also does not imply an early termination.

The option with Alpine is not much different from the two mentioned: the French group’s factory team is willing to sign a two-year deal with Sainz, leaving no option to move to rivals in 2026.

Carlos faces a difficult choice, but the number of options to continue his career is gradually diminishing.
