Verstappen: The car allowed us to really attack

After winning the sprint, Max Verstappen continued the Austrian weekend by winning the 40th pole position of his Formula 1 career.

His teammate Sergio Perez qualified eighth and explained his result by the fact that he no longer had new sets of soft tires for the final.

Max Verstappen (1st): “Qualifying went really well. We took into account everything we discovered this morning, then tried to adjust the car settings a little bit, and I think it worked out really well.

Of course, the track surface temperature was now a little higher than yesterday, so it was more difficult to drive, but the car worked much better today. I was really able to attack the corners more aggressively, every lap went just right and it was a lot of fun to drive.

I haven’t been able to start from pole on Sunday for a while, so it’s great that we won qualifying. I’m very happy for the team, because they’re working hard to make the car more competitive, and today’s result clearly confirms that. I hope we can demonstrate that in the race tomorrow, of course.

Lando Norris will start the race next to me from the front row, and it is always interesting to fight with him on track. We will see what we can do, but I hope the rivalry will be intense again.”

His teammate Sergio Perez qualified eighth, explaining his result by the fact that he had no new sets of soft tyres for the final.

Sergio Perez (8th): “The car was indeed running better, but with such a density of results I couldn’t create enough reserve, so I had to use an extra set of new tyres. As a result I reached the final without new tyres.

I think there was a chance to perform much better today, but unfortunately it was not possible to save extra sets of tyres for the final.

It will be an exciting race, so I think it will be interesting.”
