Valtteri Bottas earned two points for Alfa Romeo by finishing seventh in Saturday’s sprint. For Guanyu Zhou, it ended with a first-lap failure after a collision with Pierre Gasly…
Valtteri Bottas (7th): “First of all I would like to thank the team that did a great job building my car [на запасном шасси]† Fortunately it worked perfectly. I have full confidence in the team when it comes to the car, they had a difficult task to solve and they succeeded.
After the start the race was fun – lots of fighting and some good overtaking. We had an interesting fight with Fernando Alonso, it was great.
There was a slight slip in the beginning, I lost a few places, but then I attacked confidently. The car has good balance and a fast pace, so tomorrow we should be in good shape.”
Guanyu Zhou (retirement): “It’s a shame to retire from the race, especially if we have a really fast car. In the first sector and at the start of the second I had a tough but fair fight with Gasly and Hamilton. In the ninth corner I passed Pierre and I was ahead in the braking zone, but on the way out I got a hard blow and crashed into the wall. This is where it all ended for me.
Too bad, today was a great opportunity to win back a few places. The car is badly damaged, the mechanics will have to work on it.
Tomorrow you should try to recover. The car is fast, our innovations work, nobody knows what can happen in the race. Today we saw that overtaking is very possible. I’ll do my best – in Melbourne we got the points after last place in the first corner. I will try to repeat.”
