Lando Norris: Max might lose my respect

After the finish of the Austrian Grand Prix, Lando Norris came out to the press. The McLaren driver laid the full blame on Max Verstappen for the collision on lap 64 and said the reigning world champion would lose his respect if he did not admit his mistake.

“I had a good race and expected an exciting but fair fight, but it didn’t happen,” Lando Norris shared his opinion after the finish. – It’s very difficult for me to accept this result, because I didn’t make any mistakes in the race. I think I did well, but now we have to focus on the next stage, which will be our home stage.

There is a rule: you are not allowed to react to the actions of the rider on the back, but Max reacted to my actions three out of three times. Twice I was able to avoid the collision, but the third time he blocked my path and ruined my race. I don’t think I ruined the race for him any more than he ruined it for me. What happened wasn’t my fault.

“I couldn’t do anything else. There are rules, and if they’re not respected, I can’t do anything. I have to do my job: drive the car and fly fast. I did that today, but it wasn’t enough to win.”

Asked if his attitude towards Max Verstappen will change after such a struggle on track, Lando replied: “It all depends on what Max says. If he says he didn’t make a mistake, he will lose a lot of my respect. But if he admits that he acted stupidly and unfairly towards me, I will continue to respect him.

It is very difficult to accept such a result when you are fighting for victory. I tried to act honestly, but he wouldn’t. I don’t want to think about it anymore, I just feel sorry for the team.”
