Daniel Ricciardo: The team used the right tactics

On Sunday, Daniel Ricciardo became the only Visa RB driver to score points, and for him this is an important result of the Austrian weekend. But it took a lot of effort to achieve this result.

Daniel Ricciardo (9th): “It was a difficult race and I think we had to defend mainly and that required extreme concentration and serious effort.

I had a good start on the left and everything seemed to be going well, but then I lost a few positions because there was no more space on the track and I had to move to the side.

When the race situation stabilized after the start, I think we did well. The team used the right tactics, which allowed us to take a position in front of both Alpine cars. In the last part I defended well, fending off the attack from Fernando Alonso and then Pierre Gasly.

After Barcelona we made a noticeable step forward, so the Austrian weekend was already better and I am happy to have earned some points. But now we have to try to take the next step and prepare as well as possible for Silverstone – maybe we can fight for a top ten place there too.”

Yuki Tsunoda (14th): “The race started well for me, but then everything went so far that I ended up almost behind everyone. To be honest, I don’t know why this happened, it’s a mystery to me.

After the start I stayed behind the Alpine drivers and Daniel, but in the third stint I fell back. The pace wasn’t enough, and we still need to find out why.

Of course, Daniel did well during the race, so everything ended well for the team. It seems we have a better understanding of the direction we need to go in preparing for the next races, and that is positive.”
