In 2014, the FIA introduced a system of penalty points for drivers involved in incidents or who broke the rules. If a driver achieves 12 points within 12 months, he will be disqualified from participating in the race. Penalty points expire 12 months after collection.
In Austria, three drivers were given two penalty points at the same time – Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen each, and the leader in their number is Kevin Magnussen.
