Oscar Piastri on how Sunday’s race in Spielberg went for him…
Q: Oscar, congratulations on your second place. Tell us about the contact in the first corner right after the start. Did you have any damage to your car?
Oscar Piastri: I didn’t have the best start, but I saw a little gap and then braked late. I didn’t see Sergio riding in, Charles was there too, and eventually all three of us met at the top. =
I was very lucky. There was probably some damage, but almost nothing serious. A little later in the lap I had contact with Sergio again. So yeah, the race turned out to be eventful.
Q: What can you say about the fight with Carlos in the final rounds? You did well to avoid it from the outside…
Oscar Piastri: Yes, turn six was a great place to attack this weekend. I overtook him in the third corner on the outside radius, was very close in the fourth, in the sixth I felt better grip and took the lead.
Question: The next stage takes place at Silverstone. How do you assess the situation before the team’s home race?
Oscar Piastri: Last year we had a great weekend there, which was kind of the start of our renaissance.
Max’s car is very good in fast corners, which bodes well for their success at Silverstone, but we also have a strong car that is consistently fast on a wide range of circuits.
You know, we had slight doubts that we would be as competitive as Monaco and Canada on the more traditional circuits of Barcelona and Spielberg, but there were no problems. We can be confident that we will be able to participate in the fight.
