In the week leading up to the Austrian Grand Prix, Alpine confirmed the signing of a new long-term contract with Pierre Gasly. Martin Brundle suggested on Sky Sports that the French driver is serious about continuing his partnership with the Renault factory team.
Martin Brundle: “I think he wants stability in this team, so he decided to stay for a long time. He is an intelligent man, and I like the logic of his reasoning, as well as his calm way of working. I believe he will be a real asset to Alpine if the team can provide him with a more efficient car.
Rumor has it that Flavio Briatore is doing everything he can to get Carlos Sainz to partner Gasly. I think Sainz should sign a contract with the best team of all possible options, but with the condition that he can be released from his obligations after a year if a vacancy suddenly opens up at Red Bull or Mercedes.
Toto Wolff says he has a lot of respect for Sainz, but does not want to invite him at the moment. And if Carlos does not accept the offer from Alpine, then in my opinion Jack Duane could have a good chance to make his debut in Formula 1.”
