After the official formalities associated with the prize-giving ceremony, Carlos Sainz, who took third place in Austria, did not stay long at the Red Bull Ring and almost immediately went to the Ferrari base in Maranello to try, together with the engineers, to find a way to increase the speed of the car in the near future.
There he trained intensively on the simulator in preparation for the Silverstone round, and the Spanish press notes that Carlos is still actively involved in the modernization process of the SF-24 chassis. But because he is about to say goodbye to the Scuderia, where he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton, he is not allowed to work on next year’s car.
“I am no longer invited to participate in matters related to the 2025 car,” Sainz confirmed. “If the team did not impose such restrictions, it would not be very smart.”
The Spanish newspaper Marca writes, citing Italian journalists, that Charles Leclerc demands a priority status within the team, is nervous when he gives in to his teammate, although for example in Austria the front wing of his car was damaged by the crowd on the first lap, he did not behave in the best way.
Leclerc made the most pit stops, not only because he had to return to the pits shortly after the start for a new nose cone: he attacked too aggressively on all sets of tyres, causing the tyres to wear out quickly, losing efficiency and it all ended with the Monegasque finishing eleventh.
However, Carlos prefers to give very streamlined answers to questions about his relationship with his partner: “I know that you journalists don’t pay much attention to it, but personally I prefer to concentrate on the fight against all rivals. This is how I want to continue trading.”
At the Maranello base, while working on the simulator, Sainz, together with the team’s technical specialists, must understand the reasons for the vertical sway, which the Ferrari car is once again suffering from, but now this unpleasant phenomenon manifests itself in fast and medium-speed corners.
It is telling that the Scuderia has not had such a problem since 2022.
“To say the least, the main thing that worries us this year is the build-up,” Sainz stressed. – We haven’t fully understood this phenomenon yet and we always have to be aware of it. We’ll see what we can achieve in the run-up to Silverstone, but we’re trying to improve things a little bit.”
Although Carlos missed the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix when he underwent emergency surgery, he now lies fourth in the drivers’ standings, just 15 points behind his team-mate and 17 points ahead of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.
According to him, because he has driven one race less, he is not participating in the title dispute and now has a different goal: “This is maybe my last chance to fight for the podium, and I won’t get that in the battle for the title in the coming years, so now I want to enjoy it to the fullest.”
