Lewis Hamilton has extensive experience in the battle with Max Verstappen, but at a press conference at Silverstone the seven-time world champion refused to comment on the high-profile incident that took place in Austria, for which the Red Bull Racing driver was fined.
Lewis Hamilton: “I didn’t care about their incident, I was much more worried about my own race, and then I was happy with the win together with the team. I also think I shouldn’t give advice to Lando Norris, because he and Verstappen have been fighting for years and their rivalry has nothing to do with me.
“As for the coming weekend, I don’t think Mercedes are at the level of the leaders now, especially on the high-speed circuits. I think McLaren could be the fastest at Silverstone, although I wouldn’t rule out Max. However, we’re not so much behind them – I definitely see signs of huge progress, and we’re gradually closing in on the leaders.”
Hamilton was also asked to comment on press reports that he plans to become part-owner of the Gresini Racing team, which competes in MotoGP, the motorcycle racing world championship.
“I have always loved MotoGP racing and I follow the development of this championship, because now there are conditions for its growth in popularity,” Lewis replied. – But this year I do not plan to go that far, although in the future everything is possible.
I have said before that I am interested in sports assets, and the first step was to acquire a stake in the American club Denver Broncos, which I became a co-owner of. Hopefully, in the next five to ten years, other steps can be taken. It will become clear in which direction.”
